Please read the following information carefully before installing, cleaning, moving or collecting your aquarium.
These guidelines are designed to help protect your aquarium, ensure it is installed and handled correctly, and reduce the risk of avoidable damage.
Foam Base Requirement
- Every aquarium must be installed on a suitable foam base that supports the aquarium from edge to edge.
- Aquariums Brisbane supplies foam with every aquarium and recommends using the supplied foam, as it is a product we know and have experience with.
- Customers may use their own suitable foam, provided it offers appropriate support for the aquarium.
Aquarium Stands & Cabinetry
All aquarium stands and cabinetry must be:
- Purpose-built for aquarium use, or
- Designed and constructed by a qualified & insured tradesperson, or
- Approved by Aquariums Brisbane prior to installation.
Alternatively, customers may choose to purchase purpose-built stands and cabinets directly from Aquariums Brisbane.
Levelling the Aquarium
- The stand or cabinet must be properly levelled before the aquarium is installed or filled.
- The stand or cabinet is the item that must be adjusted and levelled. Packing or levelling materials must not be placed directly beneath the aquarium glass or foam base.
Cleaning the Aquarium
- Never use household glass cleaners, harsh chemicals or abrasive products on the aquarium. Use only clean water and aquarium-safe cleaning products.
- We recommend using soft, non-abrasive sponges, melamine “magic” sponges, or high-quality aquarium scrapers and magnetic cleaners from reputable brands such as Flipper, Tunze and D-D.
All cleaning tools have the potential to scratch glass if used incorrectly. Always inspect the cleaning surface before use and ensure no sand, gravel or grit is trapped between the cleaner and the glass.
Caring for Silicone Seams
- Silicone seams should always be cleaned carefully.
- Avoid scrubbing, picking or cutting the silicone, and never use blades or sharp tools close to the edges of the seams.
- Magnetic cleaners should not be used over or close to silicone seams.
Moving and Lifting
Never move or lift an aquarium while it contains water, substrate, rocks, decorations or equipment. The aquarium must be completely empty before it is moved. Larger aquariums should only be handled using enough people and suitable lifting equipment for their size and weight.
Rocks and Decorations
Place rocks, timber and decorations carefully to avoid impacts or concentrated pressure against the glass. Aquarium egg crate or other suitable protective materials may help reduce the risk of damage but cannot eliminate all risk.
Sealing of Timber Products
All raw pine stands and cabinets supplied by Aquariums Brisbane must be properly sealed using a water-resistant varnish, sealant, or paint. This is essential to prevent water damage and ensure product longevity.
Regular Inspection
- Periodically inspect the aquarium, silicone seams and supporting stand or cabinet.
- Look for cuts, lifting, cleaning damage or noticeable changes to the silicone seams. Also check for movement, flexing or settling in the stand or cabinet that may affect the aquarium’s support or level.
Any concerns or noticeable changes should be monitored and reported to Aquariums Brisbane promptly for advice.
Structural Modifications
- Do not drill, cut, alter or modify the aquarium, silicone seams or bracing without prior written approval from Aquariums Brisbane.
- Unless specifically stated otherwise in writing, all bracing must be treated as an essential structural component of the aquarium and must not be removed, cut down or altered.
- Unauthorised modifications may compromise the structural integrity of the aquarium and affect warranty coverage.
Structural Suitability of the Installation Area
- It is the sole responsibility of the customer or aquarium owner to ensure that the intended installation area is structurally capable of supporting the weight of the aquarium.
- This includes, but is not limited to, timber floorboards, elevated flooring and upper levels.
- We strongly recommend that a qualified structural professional assesses the site prior to installation. Aquariums Brisbane accepts no liability for damage or injury resulting from inadequate structural support.
Warranty and Care Guidelines
Failure to follow the Aquariums Brisbane Care & Information Guidelines may affect warranty coverage, particularly where incorrect installation, handling, cleaning, support or modification has caused or contributed to the damage.
